Nissl Body Stain (Cresyl violet acetate method) Baso Clear Colourful Stains
Testing Principle
Nissl bodies, also known as "chromatophilic substance," are
basophilic clumps or granules distributed within the cell bodies or
dendrites of neurons, appearing triangular or oval in shape. Nissl
bodies can be stained purple or blue by basic dyes such as
thionine, cresyl violet, toluidine blue, and methylene blue. The
presence or absence of Nissl bodies is an important indicator of
whether nerve cells are damaged.
Stain Results
Nissl bodies and cell nuclei: Appear purple or light purple.
Cartilage tissue: Appears rose-red.
Red blood cells: Appear light yellow or yellowish-green.
